What is Legionnaires Disease?

A type of pneumonia caused by a bacteria called Legionella pneumophila.

An infection that causes swelling of the air sacs in the lungs. The air sacs may fill with fluid causing coughing with phlegm, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing. A variety of organisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi, can cause pneumonia. 

The very first outbreak was recorded in Spain in 1973.

The Disease was named after an outbreak during conference at a hotel in Philadelphia USA 1976 – members of the American Legion (Soldiers).

Symptoms show 2 to 10 days after infection and even up to 16 Days.
